This newsletter exists to spread the love of the Holy Spirit to readers each Tuesday morning.
I hope you enjoy this week’s reflection on the following scripture:
“Don’t be afraid. I am with you. Don’t trembele with fear. I am your God. I will make you strong as I protect you with my arm and give you victories.” Isaiah 41.10 CEV
There are three-hundred-sixty-five instances in the bible reminding us to not be afraid. That is one for each day for an entire year.
What can we boldly do if we stop letting fear hold us back, if we learned to fully rely on God to take care of us and give us victories? We can then remember that we are called to be brave, courageous, and not afraid.
There are always going to be times when a bit of hesitation creeps in. Sometimes I grow queasy with fear, yet I soldier on looking and listening for affirmations of God’s plan for me.
For example, when I left my day job about a year ago to start an intentionally creative life, I was afraid of failure. Setting aside my fear, I continue to do the work, sitting at the desk with a laptop or at the coffee shop with my notebook.
We can remember the truth that we are children of God with big love to give here on earth. We are wise to keep our focus on something bigger than ourselves, trusting the promise of love and protection.
I remember helping my young niece step onto a sailboat one summer day. It was a big step for the small girl, and she was visibly concerned, uncertain of her ability to take that giant step over the dark water. I remember telling her that doing things that scare us allows us to be brave. She trusted me, took my hand, and made it aboard with a beaming smile.
When there is no one’s hand to hold and we feel alone and unsure, we can reach for the word of God and remind ourselves, “Be not afraid”.
When we are feeling that pit of fear, we can remind ourselves that God is with us. We can look up and find resolve and our bravery, taking each day as it comes. It takes courage to live a life with plans for a future when all our tomorrows are uncertain. As we continue, we can achieve those feats we thought were impossible, which happen when we take a leap of faith.
Listen to your heart and hear the call of God. He reminds us to trust in Him. God reminds repeatedly in the bible to set aside our fears. Surely, the best way to settle our fears is to rely on God knowing we will not be forsaken.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for protecting me always. Please help me remember it is easy to be brave when I remember Your promise to be with me always.
