My newsletter exists to spread the idea of a loving spirit to readers each Tuesday morning.
Each week, I find inspiration from sacred and/or secular texts and weave a personal essay aimed at revealing a loving spirit at work in the universe. Each post concludes with a prayer and self-enrichment journal prompts.
I hope you enjoy this week’s thoughts on the following passages:
Scripture:
“The Lord your God wins victory after victory and is always with you. He celebrates and sings because of you, and he will refresh your life with his love.” Zephaniah 3.17 (CEV)
Reflection:
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." Albert Einstein
Considering a creator’s continuous presence and the joy this deity takes in us, allows us to recognize the divine’s endless love and the renewing effect it has on our lives. Today’s scripture states that the Lord sings because of each of us, which is a delightful way to interpret this world and our place in it.
Einstein’s observation illustrates that there are two ways of looking at the randomness of this world. As a Christian, I find meaning and beauty by believing in miracles. The ubiquity of God in the background of our daily lives is something we can tune into and appreciate.
When we choose to believe everything is a miracle, we can consider the cloudless sky on our happy occasions to be prepared just for us by a loving spirit celebrating right along with us.
Christians don’t go through life where crosses appear in the sky, or their enemies are struck down with a lightning bolt, or their dead relatives are suddenly revived. However, the serendipitous happenings of day-to-day life are too often too amazing to be purely coincidental or easily explained with logic. There is space for spiritual influence in our lives.
Believers of a living God don’t need to attribute these happy occasions to a divine creator directly. But, because they occur all the time, the faithful choose to believe that God is at work with and for them all the time.
It is fun to think there is a loving being who is rooting for me and singing for me because I am worth celebrating. And so are you. So is each of us. I can be still in this knowledge, letting go of doubts, and remain active in service. It is good for our souls to treat our lives as sacred gifts, which I believe they are.
When we immerse ourselves in faith practice, we can recognize ourselves as children of the divine, born of love to become a force of love. I am grateful for the good news and confident in my place in the world.
Prayer: Dear Holy One, thank you for providing ancient wisdom, present value, and endless hope. Allow your message to remain accessible and true through the observations of this world throughout time. Amen.
Journal prompts:
Reflect on a moment in your life that you considered miraculous or a moment that you considered serendipitous. How did this moment impact your perspective? Did it influence your decisions?
Consider the idea of seeing life as a series of miracles. What would change in your daily life if you adopted this viewpoint?
