034: Overcoming Weariness and Embracing Belonging

Galatians 6.9-10

This newsletter exists to spread the love of the Holy Spirit to readers each Tuesday morning.

I hope you enjoy this week’s reflection on the following scripture:

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6.9-10 (ESV)

As a Christian writer, I sometimes grow weary of my work. Today’s scripture encourages perseverance and a focus on personal actions.

I continue to be called to travel my individual path in faith and am encouraged by the promise offered in Galatians today. It illustrates the importance of continuing to do good and serve others despite the challenges and divisions that may exist, especially in our faith communities.

My work is to encourage others to develop a personal relationship with a loving creator. I am writing here to share my view that each of us can share peace in the way we traverse this earth, in the relationships we cultivate, and in the love that we share.

There are way finders in many spiritual practices; I am most familiar with the healing power of Christianity. My faith has brought me out from the darkest of times.

When I am weary, I must recall what brought me to show up for church in the first place. I wanted to belong within a family of believers. In a family, we bring different personalities and abilities to the whole; the whole being our mission to do good in this world.

We show up for one another and lift each other up as needed in prayer and in action.I do not wish to grow weary in these efforts. I wish to continue belonging and inviting others to know this faith.

I am drawn to the Prince of Peace. In community, we have a ritual to pass the peace. Peace is spread by placing flame to wick, tilting one’s own candle to light our neighbor’s until we are surrounded in light.

With faith as small as a mustard seed, we can inspire others to have the same courage to live in service to the greater good. We can show up and do good, knowing we will reap joy in its due season.

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for my individual gifts and opportunities to serve. Give me strength when I become weary. Be with me as I work to spread peace. Amen.

Journal prompts:

  • Reflect upon how to reconcile your individual walk with God and your experiences with belonging to different faith communities.

  • Reflect upon your unique gifts that can be employed to promote peace. Where can you share your light?

  • Identify times when you doubt your faith. Recall how you find your way home.
